Papers contain juvenilia (1951-1957); drafts of short stories and plays for television (1960-1969); notes and "Scrap" writing, three scrap books containing articles by Moorhouse whilst a journalist (1957-1959); correspondence about literary prizes and fellowships, with publishers and concerning the establishment of Tabloid story magazine; and manuscripts of short stories written by other writers. It constitutes most of Moorhouse's literary work until the publication of his first book Futility and other animals (1969).

Frank Moorhouse, writer, was born in Nowra. His book, The Americans, Baby, published in 1972, established him as a leading short fiction writer. In 1993 he took a fresh direction with the historical novel Grand Days. He has also written screenplays and journalistic articles. He has won a number of literary prizes. including NBC Banjo Award 1975, Awgie Award 1984, Age Book of the Year Award 1988, UK Glitz Magazine Book of the Year 1988, ALS Gold Medal 1989.
